Collection: Daughters of the Ganges
Daughters of the Ganges is a socially conscious brand that brings to you handcrafted and ethically created products from India. DOTG, as we lovingly call it, was an idea that was born when the founders stumbled upon an opportunity to do something meaningful and make a difference to the vulnerable and marginalised communities in India. DOTG feel that a way to do this is to help artisans, especially women, in these communities using Fair Trade principles as guidelines.
As a sister affiliate of CFM Market Linkages, a WFTO certified organisation, DOTG source their products from artisan communities that have passed on their skills through the ages and are keen to nurture their cherished traditions and crafts. Each product that you purchase from DOTG is a testimony of the love and dedication exhibited by their artisans and tells a story of how lives can be changed.
Eco Consciousness
Love the planet – All DOTG materials are responsibly sourced. All their jewellery is packaged in a 100% cotton, handmade pouch.
Social Consciousness
The goal of DOTG is to support the development of their primary stakeholders – the artisan communities. There is a growing market for handcrafted goods worldwide and, through Fair Trade, DOTG would like to enable their artisans to access this market.
The ethos of DOTG is one of Fair Trade and sustainability. They give their artisans and their crafts the respect that is due to them, making them part of the DOTG growing family.
Time is devoted to train their artisans to ensure that they have sustainable jobs and new skills to carry with them through their lives. Women that are unable to leave their homes are given raw materials and tools to work from home, making communities more inclusive. Fair and equal wages, sustainable and ethical sourcing and safe work environments also fall under the umbrella of Fair Trade and are some of their key objectives. In their efforts to bring about change, DOTG also provides after school programs for the children of artisan communities to ensure that their children have a bright future.
Handmade
All DOTG jewellery pieces are handmade by their local artisans in India. Because they are handcrafted - all the pieces come with their own special imperfections but that's what makes them all the more beautiful.
Charitable
When you purchase from DOTG, you are contributing to the empowerment of several small-scale businesses and in the bargain playing a part in the development of their communities. Join DOTG in their efforts to make a difference.
